Local Government Ministry School’s MMDCEs

The Central Region has hosted the Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development Ministry for a three day zonal refresher training program for Sixty Nine (69) Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCES) in 3 Regions.

 

The Regions are Central (22), Eastern (33)and Western (13) Regional representatives.

 

In her welcome address for the opening, the host Minister, Honourable Mrs Justina Marigold Assan stated that the program was organized to provide a stage and an opportunity for MMDCES to share experiences with experts and senior policy , restrategize and find pragmatic approaches to solving local development challenges as well as support them to improve on performance during their tenure of office as MMDCES.

 

The Regional Minister noted that several efforts had been made by successive governments to deepen the local governance system with several intervention programmes and processes with the sole aim of ensuring standard service delivery which she indicated would bring in its wake accelerated development.

 

Mrs Assan finally entreated participants to approach the programme with all seriousness and endeavour to contribute meaningfully to all discussions.

 

The Minister for Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development, Honourable Daniel Botwe noted in a key note address that the programme was to help new leadership and developmental challenges as well as managerial competences and professionalism to enhance performance.

 

The Sector Minister noted that all MMDCEs had been confirmed and assumed office except for three nominee MMDCEs of Juaben in the Ashanti Region, Adaklu and Akatsi North in the Volta Region.

 

“It is my hope that you will take the best of this programme. It is a rare opportunity and I will encourage you to use this platform to engage your peers and the experts to upscale your knowledge so as to improve performance of MMDCEs”, the Miinister urged.

 

The three day zonal refresher course will see some programmes like Managing MMDAs as a business and promoting livable cities and towns, Greening Ghana and Climate Change Adaptation and Overview of MMDCEs Performances.
